Development of a Photochemical Microfluidics Platform
Professor Scott Schaus, collaborated With BU Biology Professor Ulla Hansen on research into chemical compounds that could help treat liver cancer. Professor Schaus provided the resources to synthesize and screen compounds to determine how effective these compounds could be in reducing a protein, called transcription factor LSF. LSF appears to play a role in the growth of liver.

Teaching and engaging in research at BU since 1987, Professor Gilmore's primary area of research focuses on the molecular biology of cancer, especially as it relates to lymphoma. More recently, he has been conducting research on the evolutionary origins of the immune response in simple marine organisms, such as sea anemones and coral. He has written approximately 100 scientific articles, and his research has been recognized by awards from the American Cancer Society. Professor Gilmore will receive the award during the main Commencement ceremony on May 17. Read the full announcement and listen to Professor Gilmore talk about his work.
